This course is an introduction to the History of Spanish Literature.

CONTENTS

Special emphasis will be placed on the following periods:

1. Golden Age
2a. Second half of the 19th century
2b. Realism and the Generation of '98.
3. First half of the 20th century
Generation of '27, Civil War and post-war period.

Through the detailed study of the following authors and works:

WEEK 1. Golden Age

Authors:  Cervantes/Quevedo/Calderón/Lope
Suggested reading: ANONYMOUS; Lazarillo de Tormes.

WEEK 2. Second half of the 19th century

Authors: Galdós/Clarín Suggested reading: PEREZ GALDÓS, Benito; Misericordia

WEEK 3. Realism and the Generation of '98

Authors: Baroja/Unamuno/Azorín/Machado/Inclán
Suggested reading: BAROJA, Pío; The Tree of Knowledge

 WEEK 4. First half of the 20th century

Authors: JRJiménez/Lorca/Salinas.
Suggested reading: GARCIA LORCA, Federico; The House of Bernarda Alba

The ONE WEEK program has the following curriculum:

  1. Introduction (Main Era and Previous Period)………………3 classes

  3. Text commentary (study of assigned readings)……. 4 classes

AGE: Adults (17 to 99 years old)

NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER GROUP: Maximum 6, minimum 2.

CLASSES PER DAY: 2

CLASSES PER WEEK: 10

 DURATION OF EACH CLASS: 50 minutes

SCHEDULE: Between 8:35 and 14:30 depending on other courses chosen.

METHOD: Presentation of the period, authors, and works. Research tasks, readings, presentations, and debates.

MATERIALS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE: Books and school supplies.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:  Outdoor activities related to the specific course topic, afternoons with teachers, and weekends with specialized teachers and collaborators.

NATIONAL HOLIDAYS 2026 (no classes): April 3, May 1, June 4, August 14, October 12, December 8 and 25.
