Description

Granada It's a city known for its history, its cultural activity, and its vibrant life. And also for its incomparable setting, nestled between the sea and the mountains, the Costa Tropical and Sierra Nevada, one of the largest and most attractive ski resorts in Spain.

Castilian It offers the possibility of enjoying three aspects of Granada: the Spanish, the rich leisure and cultural offering, and skiing a few minutes from the center in Sierra Nevada, under the spectacular winter light with views of the Mediterranean and Africa.

Program

PROGRAM OF THE STAY

The program combines an intensive Spanish course with a week of skiing in Sierra Nevada accompanied by the Spanish teacher (and other friends who are ski enthusiasts), both on the ski slopes and during travel.

Spanish classes are held at CastiLa's headquarters in Granada's historic and unique Albaicín neighborhood. Located in Plaza de San Nicolás, it's a place to learn Spanish… and much more.

Intensive Spanish Course Week

An intensive course of 20 or 30 Spanish classes, plus an additional 12-15 hours of sociocultural activities. These are courses 101.General A and 102. General B, taught at Castila, a center accredited by the Instituto Cervantes.

Ski Week

The ski week includes:

* 5-day ski pass with access to all lifts and available slopes (10:00 to 16:30)

* Transfer to the station in private transport organized by the school. (departure 9.30 / return 17.00)

* Up to 7 hours of skiing with Spanish speakers, including the Spanish teacher, who is very familiar with the slopes and services available at the resort and in Granada.

Participants will have a 5-day ski pass subject to the general conditions of the public company managing the ski resort, Cetursa SA.

FAQs

Do you need to know how to ski?

Students can have any level of skiing ability. Everyone enjoys the mountains at their own level, in their own style.

How much does a ski instructor cost?

Prices per class depend on the schedule and the number of students.

Who am I going skiing with?

A Spanish teacher will go skiing with the Spanish students. The Spanish teacher is not a ski instructor. If you want a good ski instructor, we will help you find the best option. We collaborate with the Spanish Ski School.

Do I need to bring my own ski equipment or can I rent it?

For ski equipment rental, we partner with a ski and snowboard rental shop that offers excellent service and equipment—probably the most professional in Sierra Nevada—and undoubtedly the best price through CastiLa. The basic rental equipment includes skis/snowboards, poles, boots, and ski storage at the base of the slopes. Other accessories such as helmets and gloves are also available.

Meals during ski days?

During our ski days, we usually pack some snacks to have lunch together, for example, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and sometimes Africa. Other times, we decide to stop at a picnic area on the slopes. At the end of the day, depending on how we feel, we stop for a drink or a meal together in a picturesque spot. If your accommodation is on a full-board basis, the family will provide you with packed lunches.

1. Spanish course: grammar practice

2/3 classes per day.

Oral and written practice in real communicative situations.

2. Thematic Units and Conversation

2/3 classes per day

Practice based on programmed topics and communicative situations. Vocabulary, oral and written exercises, conversation and comprehension (listening to and reading real audiovisual documents: CDs, DVDs, TV, radio, books, newspapers, magazines…)

3. Extracurricular Activities

To master a language, cultural immersion is essential. With this goal in mind, Castila has developed 54 sociocultural activities that help students integrate into local life.

4. Ski week with a Spanish teacher

Maximum 3 students per teacher

The Spanish teacher takes the students to the ski resort and skis with them. Skiing hours are from 9:00 AM to 17:00 PM. The Spanish teacher is not a ski instructor, but one can be hired.

DURATION OF EACH CLASS: 50 minutes

SCHEDULE: Spanish course: mornings between 8:35 and 14:30. Ski day: between 9:00 and 17:00.

METHOD: Practical communication activities with attention to form. Teacher rotation.

MATERIALS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE: Books and school supplies.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: In addition to skiing, there is a program of daily activities, afternoon activities with the teachers, and weekend activities with specialized teachers and collaborators.

Sometimes the clear air allows you to see the golden Mediterranean and Africa in the distance. Like on this occasion, with my phone ready to take photos. What a great day of skiing, and what a treat to have 90 km of slopes with a meter of powder snow, under a glorious sun!
