Description
OBJECTIVES
This course aims to show the situation of Spanish society, analyze data to discuss with Spanish students aspects such as history, customs, economy, art, politics, gastronomy, sports… The ideology that guides us is to express all ideologies, to offer a vision of many visions.
Content
- Introduction (4 classes*): Spain and its environment. Historical summary. Political and administrative division (Autonomous Communities/historical regions).
- Current political affairs (12 classes*): The Transition (social value). Presentation of the current political landscape. Spanish policy in foreign and domestic affairs of special interest.
- Economic and social situation (6 classes*): Agriculture, industry, tourism. Terrorism, crime, unemployment.
- Media (6 classes*): Press. Radio. Television.
- Culture (12 classes*): Art, design, fashion. Film and Theatre. Music. Bullfighting. Sport.
* The time allocation shown is the recommended amount for a full 40-hour, 4-week course. For shorter stays (1, 2, or 3 weeks), the student will select their preferred content with the coordinator.
This CULTURE AND SOCIETY course will coincide with the program of activities such as:
- Debates.
- Screening of illustrative videos.
- Music and radio audition sessions.
- Film screening.
- Organizing exhibitions and attending others.
- Talks and conferences: Lectures by specialists and professors on topics covered and their relation to current events.
Methodology and materials
Materials and instructors aim for a balance between providing information, reflection, and debate. Interaction between students and instructors ensures mutual enrichment through the exchange of opinions and the comparison between source and target cultures. Our guiding ideology is to present all ideologies, to offer a perspective encompassing all viewpoints.
The corpus includes a compilation of material that will serve as a guide and introduction to the various topics. For its proper use, the date and origin of the different texts will be taken into account.
This material will be supplemented with a brief bibliography and will be updated with the data and publications of the current year.

SCHEDULE: Between 8:35 and 14:30 depending on other courses chosen.
METHOD: Thematic presentations, projects, research tasks, and practical activities.
MATERIALS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE: Books and school supplies.
SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: Outdoor activities related to the specific course topic, afternoons with teachers, and weekends with specialized teachers and collaborators.
NATIONAL HOLIDAYS 2026 (no classes): April 3, May 1, June 4, August 14, October 12, December 8 and 25.
