The Los Güájares valley is a privileged area for hiking in winter, since due to its geographical position, only 20 km from the coast, it enjoys very mild temperatures.
The route passes through villages of Muslim origin with traditional architecture, ancient terraced fields, pine and holm oak forests, and also offers some surprises such as an archaeological site, the fortified settlement of Los Castillejos, dating from the Almohad period (13th century). Upon arriving in Guájar Alto, you can enjoy some delicious tapas or larger portions at a local bar. Afterwards, a descent along a road and a path alongside an irrigation channel leads back to the starting point.
Discover the natural and historical heritage with an expert guide and practice your Spanish with local hikers.
This is an easy route of about 19 km, but with a significant elevation gain, making it moderately difficult. At a reasonable pace, it presents no problems. You can also stop at 12 km and wait for others who want to complete the full route at a bar.
