The hike begins at the Bermejales Reservoir, in an area surrounded by pine and holm oak trees. The route quickly descends and winds through an impressive gorge, sometimes crossing the Cacín River and at other times walking along the eroded base of the canyon walls. It is equipped with ropes, ladders, and suspension bridges to overcome some steep sections.
From a landscape perspective, the shapes and colors of the rocks, the valley, and the vegetation are striking. The geological history is no less interesting, as these sediments, now eroded, were once part of a warm, vibrant beach. Along the route, we will find fossils that tell this story.
The river walk is only 5 km long, but it's fascinating. We finish at a Roman bridge. The return route is a dirt track through farmland. Depending on the day's temperatures, we can arrange carpools at both ends to avoid a midday walk through the olive groves.
