OBJECTIVES

This course aims to show the situation of Spanish society, analyze data for discussion with Spanish students on topics such as history, customs, economy, art, politics, gastronomy, sports, etc. The ideology that guides us is to express all ideologies, to offer a vision of many visions.

Methodology and materials

Materials and teachers aim to strike a balance between providing information, reflection and debate. Interaction between students and teachers ensures mutual enrichment through the exchange of opinions and the comparison between the source culture and the target culture. The corpus includes a compilation of material that will serve as a guide and introduction to the various topics. In order to make the most of it, the date and origin of the different texts will be taken into account.

This material will be supplemented by a brief bibliography and updated with data and publications from the current year.

Contents

  1. Introduction (4 classes*): Spain and its environment. Historical overview. Political and administrative division (autonomous communities/historical regions).
  2. Current politics (12 classes*): The Transition (social value). Presentation of the current political landscape. Spanish politics in foreign and domestic affairs of special interest.
  3. Economic and social situation (6 classes*): Agriculture, industry, tourism. Terrorism, crime, unemployment.
  4. Media (6 classes*): Press. Radio. Television.
  5. Culture (12 classes*): Art, design, fashion. Film and theatre. Music. Bullfighting. Sport.

* The timetable shown is recommended for a full 40-hour, 4-week course. For shorter stays (1, 2 or 3 weeks), students will select their preferred content with the coordinator.

This CULTURE AND SOCIETY course will coincide with activities such as:

  • Debates.
  • Screening of illustrative videos.
  • Music and radio listening sessions.
  • Film screenings.
  • Organization of exhibitions and attendance at others.
  • Talks and conferences Lectures by specialists and teachers on topics covered and their relationship to current affairs.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER GROUP: Maximum 6 and minimum 2

CLASSES PER DAY: 2

CLASSES PER WEEK: 10

 DURATION OF A CLASS:  50 minutes

SCHEDULE: From 9:30 am to 1:35 pm (Break from 11:15 to 11:50)

METHOD: Practical communication activities with special attention to the way of expression. Rotation of teachers.

MATERIAL INCLUDED IN THE PRICE: Books and all the necessary equipment.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: Daily activities in the afternoons with our teachers and on the weekends with collaborating teachers

2026 NATIONAL HOLIDAYS (no classes): April 3rd, May 1st, June 4th, August 14th, October 12th, December 8th and 25th.
